Council Renewable Energy, Video Work

This summer I have been working for my local council (Cornwall Council). I was hired to video the Renewable Energy Show 2011 which was held on the 28th & 29th of July at former Gaia Centre, Delabole, Cornwall, UK

Above - Former Gaia Centre, Delabole, Cornwall, UK.

Before the event I met up with the client and discussed what they wanted to be produced. We came to the agreement of

  •      Day of conferences from 9am – 4pm into individual videos
  •      Produce a Promotional video of the event

We also agreed a date when I could go and look at then venue of the event so I could deicide where to put the cameras for the conferences talks and also get a good idea of what the location was like.

For this Job I wanted two cameras recording the conference talks so I got my friend Ben Lean to help me out.

The day before the event, we went the venue to makre sure that the area that the cameras were going to be were clear.

I also spoke to the sound guy about recoding the sound from the sound mixer but he said that all the output were being used. So we were not able to record from the mixer that would give a high quality sound, so I decided to only way was to record sound via a Boom Mic.

Equipment I decided to bring

2 x Sony Z1s

2 x Sony Z1 battery and mains adaptor

2 x Manfrotto 504 Tripods

Zoom h4n with XLR cable

Sennheiser Wireless Microphone Kit x2

Shotgun Microphone

Boom Pole

On the day

We arrived that the venue at 8am a hour before the first talk started. In the hour gap before the start of the conference we talked over are "game plan" for the day of talks.

We made sure that we timed are camrea tape change at the right time we did this my looking over at the other camrea man and give a wave.

Camera 1 which was placed pointing straight at the speakers would stay static shot.

Camrea 2 was to the right of the speakers and would be used for close ups.

We filmed from 9am-4pm and during are lunch which we had between 1pm-2pm we got some cutaways for the promotional video which we would be filming the following day.

 Next Day

The next day we were filming for the promotional video, before we arrived we had a list of questions to ask people. We interviewed a good number of people during the day. Such as businesses that had stalls at the event, the events organisers and Vox Pop's from people attending the event. Throughout the day we filmed lots of footage for cutaways to show how the events atmosphere.
